Reclaiming Your Animal
If you find your pet on these search pages, call to notify the Shelter immediately and then come in to confirm identification. Stray animals are held for five days and if not claimed by an owner may be made available for adoption. If your animal has been missing longer than five days, they may not show up on these search pages so it is very important to call the Shelter or come in to look through the kennels.

If your animal was brought to the Shelter there could be fines and fees associated with reclaiming them and the amount will depend on whether your animal is spayed or neutered and whether it was brought in from inside or outside the city limits. When you call in, a secretary will explain which charges are applicable. Following is a list of general fees:
  City, At-Large, Altered, 1st Offense   $20
  City, At-Large, Unaltered, 1st Offense   $100
County, At-Large, Altered or Unaltered   $20 plus applicable ticket from officer
  Daily Dog Boarding Charge   $10/day
  Daily Cat Boarding Charge   $5/day
  Intake Vaccinations   $7
Adoption Process
Once you find an animal you like, you will be asked to complete an adoption survey and meet with an adoption counselor, which takes approximately 30 minutes. Please arrive at the Shelter early enough to spend some time with the animal and complete the process prior to closing time.

Adoption fees for dogs and cats are $75 if they are younger than 5 years and $55 if they are five years or older. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. In addition, dogs are heartworm tested and cats are tested for feline leukemia/FIV.

If you would like to submit an online adoption application, click HERE to apply to adopt a dog and click HERE to apply to adopt a cat. Once we receive your application, we will contact you to find out when you plan to come to the Shelter to complete the process.
Lost and Found Pets
We receive dozens of lost and found pet reports each week and take in approximately 50 animals per week. Therefore, it is very important for you to be diligent about checking these pages, calling the Shelter and visiting the Shelter to look for your lost pet.

If you have lost an animal, please check the Adoptable Animals, Stray Hold and Found Report search pages. Strays are held for five days and may then be made available for adoption.

It is VERY important to call the Shelter to file a lost report and to come in to the Shelter to look through the kennels. The only way to know for certain whether your animal is here is for you to come and look!

If you have found an animal, you can search the Lost Report page but please also call the Shelter to file a Found Report. You may also bring the animal to the Shelter so that we can scan for a microchip and complete a more thorough description of the animal.
Animals in Need of Rescue
This search page is intended for those animals that may be identified as purebred and can be pulled from our Shelter into a rescue specific for that breed. In order for a rescue to pull from us, they need to complete an application form and be approved to pull. For more information, please contact Virgil Sauder at
Animals in Need of Fostering
The Shelter has a very active foster program and places hundreds of animals in foster care in any given year. Animals are placed in foster for any number of reasons, including because they are too young, sick or need socialization. Some animals are in foster care for a very short time and some for months.
